29 June 2018
Find out the census dates for 2018 to 2019, and the changes to what data you need to collect.
The school census guidance for 2018/19 has been published.
Census dates for 2018/19 school year
The school census will take place on these dates:
- Autumn: 4th October 2018
- Spring: 17th January 2019
- Summer: 16th May 2019
Changes to data you need to collect
You must no longer collect the following information on pupils for the purpose of the census:
- Proficiency in English
Country of birth
Additionally, you should be aware that:
- Data on the number of service children must be collected each term (previously this was just in the spring census)
- Data on SEN provision can no longer be recorded under the ‘S’ code, which stands for statement of SEN (this is because statements should have now been replaced by education, health and care (EHC) plans)
- Data on ‘substantial work placements’ must now be recorded (this is as part of the introduction of T levels)
